Tips to Keep Your Child Busy During Summer Vacation

Summer vacations are tough if you are a stay at home mom who is used to having her days free. Below are some tips to make summer vacation a piece of cake.

• Plan each day of your summer vacation by placing a weekly calendar on the refrigerator
• Pick days to go out to the park or nearby track at a local high school to skate and walk
• Try to find a matinee movie each week to take your child to at a local theatre
• Plan at least two days a week at a nearby pool or other water-oriented park
• Try to plan at least one evening per week for Dad to take the kids out and give mom a break to catch up on laundry and other things that bog Moms down in the summer
• Let your children have the opportunity to research and plan your summer family vacation all on their own—give them a budget and encourage them to plan accommodations and entertainment in a summer vacation destination
• Read to your young children and require three or more books to be read by your older children during the summer break
• If your child is struggling in school, then take the time to help them catch up in the summer or send them to summer tutoring or summer school
• Find time for one on one time for each of your children each day even if its just for ten minutes or so
• Plan family time
• Enlist the help of a sitter if you are too busy to take the kids to a local pool or other activities
• Play sports with your children and encourage them to join a local team of softball or baseball
• Take the time to listen to what your child wants to do for the summer

Summer vacations are fun for children who are enabled by their parents to plan for a fun summer. Make time for your kids and offer tips and suggestions for their summer vacation to be full of fun summer activities while creating a lifetime of summertime memories.
